This week, VSE’s Deputy Director Aleksandra Ivankovic will speak at the 1st International Conference on Child-Friendly Justice: “Can Justice be Child-Friendly? – National and International Perspectives”.
Validity Foundation and the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law invite you to the 1st International Conference on Child-Friendly Justice: “Can Justice be Child-Friendly? – National and International Perspectives”, as part of the Child-Friendly Justice: Developing the concept of social court practices, co-funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020).
You will be able to hear from a wide range of speakers including children, academics, professionals and policy-makers from the European Commission, UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights and UNICEF on the topic of child-friendly justice and access to justice for children with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities, children in migration and children in alternative care.
The conference will be held online in Sofia on 30 June and 1 July in English (10.00 – 16.30 CET) , as well as offline on 2 July , (9.00 – 16.30 CET), 2021. The sessions on July 2 will be accessible both online and offline to Bulgarian participants.

About the project
The project Child-Friendly Justice: Developing the concept of social court practices (878552 – CFJ-DCSCP, Leaflet attached) seeks to help children feel better understood, safe and comfortable to talk while in contact with the criminal justice system, including children with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities. Children affected by a crime and children in conflict with the law need effective support. Still in many countries they feel scared and ignored when talking to people from the criminal justice system. This project seeks to reform criminal justice systems, especially in Bulgaria, Italy and Romania, to make them more child-friendly by improving how children are individually assessed and ensure that they obtain the support needed to participate.
