VSE’s internship program provides a wide range of opportunities for students and recent graduates who intend to work in a NGO and in the field of victims’ rights. We offer paid, full-time, 6-month internship in our head office in Brussels.

Recruitment of a Project Intern (September 2023 – March 2024)

VSE is currently looking for a full time Project Intern. The position will run for 6 months, starting ideally 4 September 2023. The key candidate will be highly organised, be attentive to details, have good drafting skills and have a pro-active and dynamic approach to work with the ability to solve problems and create solutions using their own initiative. A knowledge of victims’ rights and experience at the EU level will be an advantage.

 

Key activities:

  • Contribute to the development of project proposals including research, drafting, proofreading, editing, collecting and sharing administrative documents;
  • Support the implementation and delivery of projects including preparation and organization of and participation in project meetings, co-drafting of deliverables and reports, communication with project partners, supporting dissemination of project activities;
  • Support research and policy development in the context of EU funded projects, including desk research, preparation of research guidelines and templates, drafting of policy papers briefs, reports and other relevant documents;
  • Scanning funding opportunities and conduct research for project proposals;
  • Contribute to the administrative and financial reporting of projects;
  • Attendance of meetings, conferences and other events, note-taking and reporting;
  • Preparation of relevant documents for project related events and activities.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant degree in law, victimology, psychology, political science, international relations or related fields;
  • Strong research, analysis and drafting skills;
  • Knowledge or experience in victims’ rights and issues;
  • Experience in project development and implementation (familiarity with EU projects is an important asset);
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and EU decision making process;
  • Previous experience in an EU NGO is a plus;
  • Fluent oral and written skills in English, knowledge of another EU language is an advantage;
  • Ability to work well as part of a team;
  • Good command of MS Office tools.

Terms of the contract

The position is based in VSE’s head office in Brussels, Belgium (3 days working from the office, 2 days working from home). Applicants must have the legal right to work in the EU. VSE cannot assist non-EU Nationals to obtain a work permit or help with relocation costs.

The selected candidate will be offered a Belgian Convention d’immersion professionnelle (CIP) (38 hours/week) subject to a payment of 1000 euros per month. VSE grants our interns up to six days of extra-legal paid leave during the internship.

Desired starting date of assignment: 4 September 2023.

Recruitment of a Communication Intern (September 2023 – March 2024)

VSE is currently looking for a full time Communication Intern. The position will run for 6 months, starting ideally 4 September 2023. The key candidate will be highly organised, have good IT skills and have a pro-active and dynamic approach to work with the ability to solve problems and create solutions using their own initiative.

 

Key activities:

  • Support the implementation of communications strategies; draft and edit communications (e.g. press releases, publications, social media posts)
  • Support the organisation and running of VSE events (annual conference, online webinars, workshops, etc.)
  • Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies
  • Update databases and media lists
  • Maintenance and uploading of online learning modules, courses, webinars, and other mediums, onto the ELearning Training platform (hosted via the VSE Hub)
  • Offer back office support to member organisations using the ELearning platform to host their trainings
  • Support with administrative and financial activities if needed

Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant degree and experience in communications
  • Knowledge of Learn Dash, WordPress, Elementor and Buddy Boss
  • Familiarity with design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Canva) and content management systems is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience of web publishing and social media management
  • A creative approach to ideas, messages and advocacy actions
  • Previous work experience in the NGO or victimssector is an advantage
  • Fluent oral and written skills in English, knowledge of another EU language is an advantage
  • Ability to work well as part of a team

Recruitment of a Capacity Building & Policy Intern (September 2023 – March 2024)

VSE is currently looking for a full time Capacity Building and Policy Intern. The position will run for 6 months, starting ideally 4 September 2023. The key candidate will be highly organised, be attentive to details, have good drafting skills and have a pro-active and dynamic approach to work with the ability to solve problems and create solutions using their own initiative. A knowledge of victims’ rights, project management and experience at the EU level will be an advantage.

Key activities:

  • Support with review of membership applications;
  • Support the organisation of capacity building events and meetings, such as workshops, staff exchange, national meetings;
  • Support the development and delivery of training, both online and in-person;
  • Support the implementation and development of VSE’s standards and accreditation process;
  • Update and maintain VSE membership database;
  • Support research and draft policy documents in particular in the context of the revision of the EU Victims’ Rights Directive, draft responses to EU consultations and advocacy letters;
  • Support the organisation of internal and external meetings and events; including draft minutes of meetings and prepare presentations;
  • Monitor relevant EU policies and processes, attend meetings and conferences, take notes and report back to the team;
  • Update and maintain EU contact database, identifying relevant contacts;
  • Monitor case law of the ECHR and ECJ relevant to victims’ issues and write summary and articles;
  • Support with administrative and financial activities as required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant degree in political science, international relations, law, victimology or related field
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and EU decision making process
