“Sapori di Libertà” envisages the renovation of the south section of the Mantova Penitentiary in order to realize a new kitchen, a dining hall and a new workshop artisan bakery area managed by prisoners. During the project, 10 detainees have been involved in a 2000 hours professional master focused on buildings and renovation skills that they could spend to find a job after their release.
In the autumn of this year, a baker class training (600 hours) will take place for other 10 detainees and a social cooperative will be established to produce and market high quality bakery products (breads, cookies and sweets) with an high social added value.
“Sapori di Libertà” is much more than a real opportunity for offenders for the re-inclusion and for re-entering into society. In fact, thanks to the next Libra’s Christmas Campaign, the “Sapori di Libertà Bakery” will produce and sell the “Bisulan” (a special Mantova’s traditional cake) handmade by detainees involved in the project. Funds collected will sustain directly activities of the Libra’s Victim Support Centre in Mantova.
