By January 12, 2018February 1st, 2021News, News from members

From 1st January 2018, OID has welcomed our new and first Secretariat Leader, Dorte Kallestrup Mortensen, who is well known to Victim support in Denmark, and who has got extensive leadership experience. She was among other responsibilities coordinating the past 3 years’ education program, that has now ended, but which will be carried on in 2018 as a one-year project till we can apply for funding again.
OID has also ended a 3-year piloting mentor program, which in the future will be included in the educational program, as it has shown relevant, and is appreciated among victims and counsellors.
OID 20th anniversary 2018
In 2018 the victim support in Denmark can celebrate 20 years in the field. A lot has happened over time, but we are still a purely volunteer service with 12 local Victim support organizations and about 200 volunteer counselors.
To mark this, OID will hold a one-day conference on Victims’ Day on 22nd February, at the parliament, with focus on victims, partly of digital crime, partly of terror attacks.
In 2017, two legal improvements on support to victims have been passed:

  1. Protection of public employees has been expanded to also cover attacks outside work, e.g. if prison police/workers are threatened in their home or in public places. Likewise, their family members are protected, if exposed to crime, that is caused due to their relationship with the public employee.
  2. It is now possible to immediately issue an order of prohibiting a person from staying or moving in a defined area near another person’s residence or work or other area in an abusive manner, e.g. in case of stalking.

OID is wishing all VSE members, staff and officials the very best for 2018, with great thanks for a lot of interesting and educative events.
