By May 6, 2016February 1st, 2021News
Project IVOR, was promoted by APAV, with the partnership of International Victimology Institute Tilburg (INTERVICT), University of Leuven (KU Leuven) and Victim Support Europe, and co-financed by the European Commission.
Project IVOR – Implementing victim-oriented reform of the criminal justice system in the European Union (2014-2016) offers an overview of current research into and with victims’ rights and services, identifying lacunas in the knowledge base and offering a model which can serve to connect experience and research on the Directive 2012/29/EU.
Project IVOR’s results contained in its Final Report, available at http://apav.pt/ivor/index.php/en/, present an analysis of the position of victims in the EU Member States, while also offering a rich and analytical overview of the recent developments on the victim assistance model(s). It also allows a further understanding of the manner in which victim-oriented reform in the EU may succeed, aligned with practical recommendations and measures to promote the transposal of the Directive 2012/29/EU.
The results of the project are particularly useful for different professionals, including researchers through an improved awareness and knowledge of the evidence-base and research available in the area of victims’ rights and needs, grounding much needed endeavors in the research in this criminological domain. More importantly, Victim support organisations and victim assistance providers may access information on the effectiveness of their services and a deeper understanding of the context in which they operate in, which may also serve as a trigger to improve daily practices and, while having comparable assistance models in other EU MS, learn from their own experience and best practices without losing track of the social and historical context in which they are inserted in.
