Mariana Cunha is a jurist and legal expert in the field of women’s rights. Her areas of expertise include Human Rights, Gender Equality, European Law, Criminal Law and International Law. She leads a Portuguese NGO working to prevent and combat femicide, and her work focuses on advocacy, lobbying and policy making. In the last years, she has also had the opportunity to conduct extensive research and write several articles and policy papers on a variety of topics within the field of women’s rights, particularly on Gender-based violence. Mariana holds a bachelor’s degree in Law, a Master’s in Criminal Law, and an LLM in Law and Gender from the SOAS University of London, where she has written a dissertation on “Domestic Violence as Torture: a Critical Analysis of the ECtHR’s Recent Development’s“.
