On April 25th, Victim Support Europe took part in a joint statement on the recast EU Anti-Trafficking Directive.
Led by La Strada International and in collaboration with several EU NGO’s (European Sex Workers’ Rights Alliance, European Council on Refugees and Exiles, Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women and the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants), we welcome the progress made. But does this recast directive truly advance the rights of trafficked persons?
We find that the final text shows a lack of commitment on the part of European institutions in the crucial fight against human trafficking. EU member states must guarantee proper access to rights and justice for trafficking victims, both legistlatively and in practice. With the upcoming implementation process of this directive, we call on EU institutions and member states for a full implementation of the anti-trafficking directive, ensuring that no victim is left behind and there is victim support for all.
