A warm welcome to our new member Vilnius Institute for Advanced Studies!

By February 9, 2023News, Top Story

We are delighted to welcome Vilnius Institute for Advanced Studies (VILIAS) as our new member!

VILIAS was established as an NGO in 2013. During its 10 years of activity, participation in many national and European Commission projects, victim assistance, and crime prevention have developed to be key areas of VILIAS’ activities.

VILIAS is also a member of the Lithuanian Association of Specialised Assistance Services. The Institute’s activities are mainly based on cooperation with students (bachelor and master studies in criminology) and lecturers of the Department of Criminology of the Faculty of Philosophy of Vilnius University. Therefore, it combines academic knowledge and youthful enthusiasm, allowing the Institute to be quite active in developing victim support and crime prevention systems in Lithuania.

Talking about the level of support offered to victims in Lithuania, there have been important developments and progress is being made.

In 2019, Victim Support Europe and partner organisations conducted an in-depth assessment of the practical implementation of the 2012 Victims’ Rights Directive, establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime in all EU Member States.

Learn more about good practices and most pressing victims’ rights issues in Lithuania by exploring the VOCIARE national report for Lithuania.

We are very excited to add new members who always bring new ideas and energy to our organisation and hope that VILIAS will benefit from this membership to advance victim support in their country.
