SARAH podcast-series: “Your mess will become your message – Speak up!”

By November 8, 2021 News

I am a migrant and a survivor of violence, and I have the privilege to host this podcast. I will guide the conversation with questions and share my own thoughts. Around this table we have two women ready and willing to share their thoughts.”

In the SARAH-podcast series migrant women discuss gender-based violence, and the importance of professional support in dealing with the experiences. In each of the podcasts (one in Arabic, Farsi, Somali and English) different marvellous women share their thoughts. The podcasts are available on Soundcloud and Spotify.

You can use a podcast as a discussion opener by sharing it with someone who is going through violence. If it might be a risk for her safety to have the podcast on her phone, advise her to delete the podcast link after listening.

A Toolkit for Enhancing Counselling for Victims of Gender-Based Violence

In the SARAH-project, short-term psycho-social and legal counselling services were provided by the Greek Council for RefugeesSOLWODI Deutschland e.V, the Italian Refugee Council, and Setlementti Puijola to refugee and migrant women victims of gender-based violence in Greece, Germany, Italy and Finland.

The concept of this toolkit emerged from the desire of the partner organisations’ counselors to incorporate to the counselling different ways to ensure that women in migration who have experienced gender-based violence are heard. The toolkit can be used to improve the quality and impact of counselling by assisting: the beneficiaries to understand their own strengths, resources and priorities, the counsellor to make informed decisions about the possible steps in supporting the beneficiaries, and organisations and professionals in collecting data for impact evaluation as well as for advocacy.

  • Tool One: Background information on beneficiaries
and data on access to services
  • Tool Two: Discussion topics for counselling
  • Tool Three: Feedback form for the counselled
  • Tool Four: Self-reflection questions for the counsellor

The toolkit was developed initially for this counselling context. For more information about the method of counselling please see the Handbook on Counselling Asylum Seeking and Refugee Women Victims of Gender-Based Violence developed in our previous joint EU-funded project Co-creating a counselling method for refugee women GBV victims (CCM-GBV).
