On 20 January, Victim Support Europe joined a lively Ad Hoc meeting of the EU Victims’ Rights Platform with NGOs and Commission colleagues. We explored the revised Victims’ Rights Directive (provisionally agreed in December 2025) and funding opportunities through the Justice Programme and the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme. It was a fantastic chance to share VSE’s expertise and hear from fellow organisations on the ground.
The discussions highlighted some great wins, like third-party reporting and new procedural accommodations for persons with disabilities — while also flagging areas for improvement, including support for irregular migrants. We also looked ahead to the upcoming EU Strategy on Victims’ Rights (2026–2030), focusing on victims with specific needs, restorative justice, and stronger cooperation between NGOs, local communities, and justice authorities.
