Children on the move face heightened risks of trafficking and exploitation — and too often fall through protection gaps.

Together with Missing Children Europe, Victim Support Europe contributed to the Report of the UN Special Rapporteur on Trafficking, focusing on the rights of migrant, refugee, asylum-seeking and stateless children who are victims of, or at risk of, trafficking.

While international standards exist, implementation remains weak. Children are frequently exposed to technology-enabled trafficking, criminalised for offences linked to their exploitation, and left without access to child-friendly reporting, protection, and justice systems.

Our joint submission calls for:

  • Stronger responses to technology-enabled trafficking and online exploitation
  • Improved prevention and early identification for children on the move, especially unaccompanied and separated children
  • Child-centred application of legal safeguards, including non-punishment and access to support regardless of migration status
  • Better data collection and monitoring to inform effective, rights-based policies
