🇩🇪 Today, Germany takes over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the next six months.
❗️Momentum should be maintained despite COVID, and start-stop situations similar to development of victims’ policies at EU level in the last 20 years should be avoided. The cooperation between Victim Support Europe and the Presidency is of great importance.
We welcome the Presidency and look forward to bringing the following victims’ rights issues to a new level together:
✔️focus on all victims of crime: generic victim services can also be beneficial for vulnerable groups of victims;
✔️ implementation of 116006 helpline in all EU Member States;
✔️ compensation, in particular issues surrounding cross-border compensation;
✔️ collection of data/statistics: very important issue regarding victimisation, which is holding back progress in the field.
✔️ victims of terrorism and focus on attacks outside the EU, where European citizens might be involved. The importance of using embassies, EU delegation, EEAS to coordinate the work.
