1st Online Meeting of the Social Alliance for Children: “The Next Steps for the Operation of the Network”
The 1st Online Meeting of the Regional Network of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace for the Protection of Children, organized under the Social Alliance for Children and coordinated by “The Smile of the Child”, brought together regional authorities, municipalities, medical associations, law enforcement, the Church, and other stakeholders to plan the next steps for safeguarding children, youth, and families in the region. Participants highlighted the need for cross-sectoral cooperation in education, health, social welfare, and prevention, presenting concrete proposals such as teacher training, preventive medical care, enhanced child protection services, and coordinated crisis management. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to establish permanent structures of collaboration and unified operational tools, aiming to provide holistic protection for children in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and to serve as a model for the rest of Greece.

During the first half of 2025, “The Smile of the Child” supported 54,227 children across Greece through its 10 Specialized Action Centers, offering vital services that addressed alarming increases in youth violence, abuse, disappearances, online dangers, health problems, and family crises. Through its hotlines, emergency interventions, prevention programs, medical transport, care homes, counseling, and material aid, the organization provided holistic support not only to children but also to their families, highlighting both the scale of the challenges and the crucial role it plays in safeguarding and improving the lives of vulnerable minors nationwide.
