A recent Brown Bag Lunch session provided an engaging exchange on victims’ rights within the EU framework and their relevance for enlargement work. Victim Support Europe’s Levent Altan, Aleksandra Ivankovic and Efthymis Antonopoulos joined colleagues from DG ENEST for a discussion covering key priorities, including an overview of the EU acquis on victims’ rights, recent legislative and policy initiatives of the Commission, and the role of National Victim Support Strategies.
The session also highlighted VSE’s ongoing work to strengthen victim support systems and promote more victim-centred justice responses across Europe. It offered a valuable opportunity to recentre victims in the discussion and to support EU candidate countries in aligning their frameworks and practices with EU standards in this area.
