The Union of Women Association of Heraklion Perfect- UWAH is an NGO, established in 2001, that belongs to the Voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations, operating at Heraklion Municipality, Crete, Greece. UWAH is active in the promotion and protection of women’s and children‘s sights; while it also engages in raising awareness and advocating for human rights.
THE MISSION
The Union of Women Association of Heraklion Perfect- UWAH is active in the promotion and protection of women’s and children’s rights, while at the same time it deals with the awareness and defence of human rights. In this context, our main mission is to promote, implement and monitor the implementation of the Istanbul Convention (Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, 2011) at local, national and European levels.The main activity of the organisation is to provide support services to women and children who have suffered domestic and intimate partner violence. The organisation is certified for its
counselling services according to the ISO 9001:2008 protocol. It operates a 24-hour emergency helpline, the Shelter for women who have suffered domestic violence, the Counselling Centre and the Homelessness Unit to provide a range of social services to people who are victims of the economic crisis.
The main goals are:
➢ To address the phenomenon of abuse and domestic violence
➢ Maximizing the benefit of the woman and child experiencing abuse
➢ Promote and implement the Istanbul Convention (Council of Europe Convention on
preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, 2011)
➢ Awareness-raising and training (specialized) related to abuse
➢ Cooperation with stakeholders (police, social services, health structures, prosecutors
and legal professionals)
➢ Ongoing cooperation within and outside Crete
