Apply Now to Participate in EU-wide Training on Digital Evidence in Human Trafficking Cases
We are pleased to invite you to the second EU Capacity Building event within the DISRUPT project, aimed at enhancing professionals’ capabilities in terms of digital evidence-based investigations, prosecution, and judicial response in human trafficking cases.
The capacity building activities at EU level are designed to facilitate the exchange of best practices and encourage practitioners to work together to identify European-wide solutions through practical exercises. The multidisciplinary approach employed for the training will ensure that participants develop both their digital skills when it comes to the use of digital evidence in the detection, investigation and prosecution of child trafficking cases, as well as their understanding of the phenomenon and the relevant legislation.
The topics that will be covered during the event include:
- Digital Investigation in Trafficking: An in-depth exploration of how digital tools and methods can be applied to investigate and combat human trafficking. The session will provide insights into using technology for identifying trafficking networks, tracking perpetrators, and protecting victims.
- OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence): Participants will learn how to leverage open-source intelligence to gather information from publicly available digital platforms such as social media, websites, and online databases.
- Scenario-based Analysis of Information Flows: This segment will focus on practical, scenario-based exercises designed to help participants understand the flow of information within trafficking networks. Through real-world case studies, attendees will practice tracing information and identifying potential trafficking routes, hidden connections, and key players.
- Cross-national Knowledge Transfer: Since trafficking often spans multiple countries, this topic will highlight the importance of international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
These topics will be introduced and discussed in an interactive session, encouraging active participation and collaboration. Through case studies, hands-on exercises, and group discussions, attendees will gain practical skills and insights that they can apply in their professional roles. The session will foster a deeper understanding of the challenges in digital investigations and the importance of cross-border cooperation in addressing trafficking issues.
The capacity building event will be held on 12 – 13.02.2025 in Vienna, Austria.
Registration is open, and you can secure your spot by filling in the form in this link.
Background
The DISRUPT project aims to contribute to the fight against human trafficking, particularly of child victims, by strengthening professionals’ capabilities in conducting investigations, prosecutions and judicial responses, that leverage digital evidence. The novelty of the project lies in its focus on methods of collecting and analysing digital evidence in cases of child trafficking, specifically for sexual exploitation, in order to corroborate and strengthen victims’ testimonies, which are sensitive and might be volatile, especially in cases of child victims. DISRUPT will enhance the success rates in the fight against human trafficking at EU level, particularly in cases with an online dimension and digital evidence.
