Levent Altan, Executive Director of Victim Support Europe (VSE), recently moderated a high-profile panel at the CERIS (Community for European Research and Innovation for Security) Annual Event on Research for Fighting Crime and Terrorism. Held in Brussels, the event gathered civil society experts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the latest advancements in criminal and counterterrorism research.
Altan, in his role as VSE’s Executive Director, was well-positioned to lead the discussion. The panel, titled ‘Involvement of NGOs/CSOs’, focused on the critical role of NGOs in bridging research gaps in the fight against crime and terrorism. Experts from across Europe highlighted the added value of NGO and CSO perspectives in EU security research projects. They also explored the challenges of NGO involvement, particularly in project collaboration and execution.
A lively Q&A session followed, allowing attendees to share insights and gain fresh perspectives on the topic.
The panel concluded with a call for greater NGO involvement in crime and terrorism research, acknowledging their essential role in shaping policies that promote long-term security and justice.
Victim Support Europe expresses gratitude to CERIS and DG HOME of the European Commission for including the organization in this important annual event.
