VSE Policy Update
Victim Support Europe submitted inputs for the European Parliament (EP) draft report to influence the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework; the proposal will be taken into account for the work on the upcoming Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) opinion.
Mainstreaming victims’ rights in all matters pertinent to fundamental rights and civil liberties, and reducing financial contributions for civil society organisations, are the top priorities for us. At the same time, we are advocating for a robust and well-resourced budget for the implementation of European Union laws on victims and the promotion of the victims’ rights agenda. Funding requires strategic, long-term planning to foster sustainable development, support frameworks, and ensure dignity and safety for all. The European Union should remain a beacon of stability and prosperity in these challenging times, maintaining a focus on Europe despite the withdrawal of the United States.
More specifically, with regard to funding streams, there needs to be a clear and direct reference to victims of crime. If there is only a reference to fundamental rights, victims are overlooked, and European Union-funded projects and programs do not provide space for initiatives focused on victims and targeted to their needs.
