VSE Contribution to Public Consultation on Protecting Children from Crime
Children experience crime differently, and responses must reflect that.
Victim Support Europe has submitted its contribution to the European Commission’s consultation on the future EU Action Plan to protect children from crime. Drawing on the expertise of our members across Europe, we call for a child-centred, victims’ rights and risk reduction approach that addresses both online and offline harms.
From child sexual abuse and trafficking to cybercrime, online grooming, hate crime and emerging AI-enabled risks, children need timely support, child-friendly reporting mechanisms, trauma-informed services and safer digital environments. Prevention, early identification and strong cooperation between public authorities, civil society and digital platforms are key to building children’s resilience and reducing victimisation.
The future Action Plan should place child victims—and children at risk—at the heart of Europe’s response, ensuring protection, recovery and long-term wellbeing.
