On 1 October, Victim Support Europe (VSE) hosted an online national engagement meeting, initiated by Ruth Maxwell, VSE Victims’ Advocate Member, bringing together Irish victim-support members and stakeholders to explore opportunities for a more coordinated approach to supporting victims of crime in Ireland.

Discussions focused on gaps in existing services and the need for clearer pathways to ensure that all victims can access appropriate support, regardless of their circumstances or needs. Participants explored the potential for a National Victim Support Framework, including the possible establishment of Victim Support Ireland (VSI), as well as opportunities to strengthen cooperation and collective advocacy among organisations.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of building on existing services and initiatives, identifying shared priorities and engaging with policymakers to advance a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to victim support in Ireland.

Next steps include identifying gaps in current provision, bringing relevant stakeholders together to develop common priorities and continuing engagement with policymakers. VSE stands ready to contribute European expertise, international experience and examples of good practice to support further discussions led by Irish stakeholders
