Policy Strategic Meetings 

Over the summer, the VSE Policy Team held a series of strategic meetings with key EU stakeholders to advocate for stronger protection of victims’ rights across different policy areas. These included exchanges with DG HOME on child rights and internal security, migration and victimisation; DG CNCT on cyberbullying and online victimisation and victim-centric orientation of the Digital Services; Members of the European Parliament on violence against women and domestic violence and the impact on victims due to gang violence and exploitation; the revised Victims’ Rights Directive Irish Member meeting, and UNODC Constructive dialogues on Trafficking in Persons, as well as engagement with the Committee of the Regions on the Anti-Racism Strategy process. Finally, VSE members joined the Victims’ Rights Platform to engage with DG JUST on child victimisation.  

Additionally, engagement with the European Parliament was strengthened as VSE met with the Rapporteur of the Proposal on the  Firearms Trafficking Directive (MEP Incir, Sweden) to provide victim-centric ideas and connect the dots between victim support and internal security, organised crime and violence. These meetings helped ensure that victims’ needs remain visible across EU policy discussions and that rights and support needs are mainstreamed in various policy sectors.
