We are proud to have submitted our feedback to the European Commission on the European Democracy Shield, emphasising the vital role of victim-centred justice in strengthening and safeguarding democracy.

In the face of growing threats to democratic values—from disinformation and foreign interference to polarisation and social fragmentation—Victim Support Europe (VSE) has called for a victim-centred, empathetic, and inclusive approach to protecting democracy in the EU.

Our submission emphasises that victims must be recognised not only as beneficiaries of justice but as active agents in building democratic resilience. Supporting victims is not a side note—it’s a cornerstone of democratic legitimacy, social trust, and long-term societal stability.
