Spanish Presidency hosts seminar on enhancing comprehensive protection for victims of terrorism in the EU

Tue 1 Aug 2023 15:47

In the framework of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second semester of 2023, the Spanish Ministry of Home Affairs is organising the international seminar “Actions to improve the comprehensive protection of victims of terrorism in the European Union”, which will take place in Madrid on 25 September 2023.

The seminar aims to formulate concrete proposals to improve support for victims of terrorism in the European Union, leading to the adoption of new Conclusions on Victims of Terrorism by the Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA), complementary to those adopted on 4 June 2018.

It will consider reinforcing existing European structures for victims of terrorism and strengthening their rights at European level, as well as promoting memory policies in the Member States and the testimony of victims of terrorism in the prevention of violent radicalisation.

There will be two round tables: the first one, on the current coordination mechanisms in the European Union to attend to victims of terrorism; and the second one, on the role of victims in the prevention of radicalisation and memory policies. The final part will be dedicated to the participants’ proposals for improving the rights of victims of terrorism at the European level, as well as coordination between Member States.

The seminar will be held in Spanish and English and will include a lunch hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs at the venue. Detailed information on the programme can be found in the seminar’s agenda. Please find the official save the date here.

Registration should be made at this link before 31 August.
